SAN DIEGO -- Geeks don't cry. But they do ask pointed questions and tell you when you suck.
That's a lesson two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank has learned before at Comic-Con International. Not that she's complaining. In fact, in an interview with the Sun, she sounds almost ready to embrace her inner geek.
"People here are so passionate. I love that. I love passion, people who know what they like and don't like."
Besides, they're also likely more concerned with what you're starring in as who you are or aren't dating. And that was certainly true this year, as the newly-single Swank, during a question-and-answer session with fans, fielded questions ranging from how she researched her role in November's supernatural thriller The Reaping (she got a subscription to The Skeptical Inquirer) to whether she'd ever star in a Supergirl TV show (if the material was good, i.e.: never).
In The Reaping, Swank portrays a former Christian missionary who, following the death of her family, loses her faith and becomes a debunker of supernatural phenomenon. Her skepticism is tested, however, when she comes upon a town that's experiencing the 10 Biblical plagues.
Although Swank is best known for dramas, this isn't her first foray into fantasy.
She previously made The Core.
Moreover, she's reluctant to categorize The Reaping as merely a genre effort.
"The script's always the thing. This was a real page turner for me. I sat down to read it and I wasn't even checking the page count to see how many pages were in the script, which I do quite often.
"And there was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming, and it's very, very hard to trick me."
