It's only fitting uber-geeks Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez should generate Comic-Con's biggest non-Snakes or Spider-related buzz.
The two directors were on hand to introduce clips from their Grind House double feature, which sees Tarantino direct the slasher film Death Proof while Sin City's Rodriguez directs Planet Terror.
Tarantino also used the opportunity to announce he's signed Kurt Russell to play Stunt Man Mike, Death Proof's serial killer.
Footage from Planet Terror, including a scene in which a one-legged Rose McGowan uses a machine gun as an artificial limb, received a standing ovation from the crowd.
SNAKES SMELLS
So, is Snakes On A Plane bad in a good way (Tremors) or just plain bad (Anaconda)? From the footage screened here, I have to say it falls squarely into the latter category.
The CGI snakes look terrible and the scenes play less with a wink than with a thud. As one Comic-Con attendee predicted, "Big opening day and then it's over."
MORE THAN MEET'S THE EYE
Out next summer is a big-budget live-action Transformers movie directed by Michael Bay (The Rock, Pearl Harbor).
Bay appeared at Comic-Con Saturday via a taped transmission to announce the voice of Optimus Prime will be reprised by Peter Cullen, who voiced the character on the much-loved '80s cartoon.
WILL LOST RETURN TO FORM?
The folks behind ABC's Lost showed up to give fans a hint of what's to come for Season 3.
Look for the first few episodes to focus on Jack, Kate and Sawyer.
Co-creator J.J. Abrams is co-writing the season premiere and will direct the seventh episode.
Desmond, Locke and Eko will all return, despite seemingly being blown up with the hatch. Co-creator Damon Lindelof says time itself may be moving at a different speed for the castaways.
Lindelof says there's a master plan for the show which will take it through Season 5. After that, he hopes to end the series altogether.
