Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is to spend $387,000 on a set of luxury tree houses for her children.

The writer has had plans drawn up and her son David and daughter Mackenzie are to each get their own two-storey wooden buildings with bay windows in the back garden of the family's Edinburgh, Scotland home.

Rowling has submitted an application for planning permission to Edinburgh City Council and the construction, which is said to look like part of a Harry Potter film set, will feature interlinking tunnels, a rope bridge, spiral staircase, fireman's pole, trap door and a stainless steel slide.

A spokesperson for the Council tells Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "We have received an application and it will be considered in the usual way."
