Meyer: More 'Twilight' possible

If Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer ever writes another word about fictional Forks, Wash., and its gaggle of vampires and werewolves, you may not get to read it. Meyer is playing it cool.

"I did even plan out where it would go for a couple more books," Meyer reveals at a press conference for the on-screen finale she helped to produce, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2. "So I know exactly what would happen. But I don't know, maybe some day I'll write it out for myself. We'll see. It was fun. It is hard right now."

It is "hard" because the actors who play Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, Jacob Black and others have changed the act of creation for her. They were obviously not around when she originally dreamed up the story, literally.

"They are in my head when I work on the stories," Meyer says now of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner et al, "and it is hard for me to disassociate. It is a little corrupted, so it makes it more difficult."

Still, there may be future books published. "I don't know ... I'm not into permanence. So I wouldn't say no absolutely. I'm not going to do it today. But I don't know how I'm going to feel in five years."

Meanwhile, Meyer and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg collaborated on the "alternative ending" for the movie. This is the big battle scene, which is not in the book.

"I wouldn't call it an alternate ending," Meyer says. "Melissa and I sat down when we were first talking about whether we were going to make Breaking Dawn into a movie and the ending was something that we knew needed to be cracked. We sat there and hashed it out and came up with something. In a way, I would say that it's off-screen in the novel because we only see what Bella sees and this was just a way of making visual what some of the other characters might have been seeing. It does feel very surprising!"

Rosenberg says that brainstorming the sequence was "one of my most fond memories" on the series. She was dining with Meyer in a steakhouse, discussing how to make the climax more cinematic. "Then we just hit on it at the same time over these juicy steaks. One of the big exciting moments for writers is that moment of inspiration and we shared that moment: 'This is a movie; we can do this!' "
