Embattled rapper Gucci Mane has been sentenced to six months behind bars for violating his probation, according to a report.

The hip-hop star, real name Radric Davis, was handed the punishment on Friday in relation to his latest arrest in Atlanta, Georgia on 14 September, when he was taken into custody on suspicion of disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.

Documents obtained by editors at worldwrapfederation.com show Mane was ordered to serve 183 days in prison.

The sentence emerges days after the rapper confessed to a 10-year addiction to cough syrup and finally admitted he needs to seek treatment in rehab to conquer his demons.

Mane has been dogged by legal troubles for years - he walked free from his last jail stint in May following an arrest for an alleged probation violation. He is also due to stand trial later this year after pleading not guilty to allegations he hit a soldier over the head with a bottle in an Atlanta nightclub in March
