Rapper/actor Drake feared he had wrecked his career before it had even begun after auditioning for a role on TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation while high on marijuana.
The Started From the Bottom hitmaker reveals he had been hanging out with the popular kids from school when they experimented with the drug, but it made him so paranoid he freaked out as he was due to try out for a role on the Canadian TV drama.
He explains, "That was my first time (trying the drug)... so it was crazy because I started really getting paranoid, I thought I had just completely ruined my life, I was splashing water on my face constantly...
"I showed up to the audition and I got just a little less paranoid, and went in and did what I could and was just devastated. I couldn't tell my mom, and I ended up getting a call back and getting a role!"
Despite his lucky break, Drake reveals the scary experience has prompted him to keep his partying separate from his work life.
He adds, "That's actually the reason why... I keep all my work very separate from (smoking weed)... I don't really understand people who can go out on stage under the influence of anything. I have to be straight and clear-minded."
Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, portrayed Jimmy Brooks on the TV show from 2001 to 2009.
