We’ve all had bad days at the office, but we’re betting that entertainment reporter Sam Rubin is wishing he could have a do-over with Samuel L. Jackson after he mistook the actor for Laurence Fishburne.
During Jackson’s appearance to promote RoboCop Monday morning on KTLA, Rubin asked Jackson about his Super Bowl commercial.
“Did you get a lot of reaction to that Super Bowl commercial?” Rubin asks. “What Super Bowl commercial?” Jackson replies.
Rubin quickly tries to backtrack, but it’s too late. (In case you didn’t catch the big game, Fishburne played The Matrix’s Morpheus in an ad for Kia.)
“You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne. We don’t all look alike. We may be black and famous, but we don’t look alike... You’re the entertainment reporter and you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne?”
Rubin tries desperately to get Jackson to let it go, but he doesn’t.
“I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet black guy,’ he’s the car black guy, Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy.”
And just so we're all on the same page, Rubin isn't a rookie. He has been an entertainment reporter since 1991. According to his bio, "he has established a reputation as someone who goes beyond the entertainment headlines of the day." Sorry Sam, maybe it's time for the crime beat for a month or two along with a nice gift basket for Jackson. Check out the video from TMZ below.
