Liza Minnelli thinks Ellen DeGeneres needs to work harder at her drag queen jokes.

DeGeneres sparked controversy during the Oscar telecast when she insinuated during her monologue that Minnelli, who won an Academy Award for Cabaret in 1972, looked like a man.

“Hello to the best Liza Minnelli impersonator I’ve ever seen,” DeGeneres said to Minnelli in the audience. “Good job, sir.”

When asked by a TMZ photographer about the joke, Minnelli says she wasn’t impressed.

“I think she thought it would be funny but she never stopped after she said it and said, 'My friend, Liza Minnelli, so I think it went a little stray on her.”

Despite the joke, Minnelli says she was still a fan of DeGeneres.

“I don’t think she meant any harm at all and she’s a wonderful lady...and I think she did great.”
