A representative for Bryan Singer has spoken out to dismiss a lawsuit accusing the Hollywood director of sex abuse as "absurd", "defamatory" and "completely without merit".

The X-Men moviemaker has been targeted in a lawsuit filed by Michael Egan in Hawaii on Wednesday in which the plaintiff accuses Singer of battery, assault, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Egan is seeking more than $300,000 in damages.

However, the director's lawyer, Marty Singer, has now spoken out to brand the lawsuit "completely without merit".

The attorney adds, "We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit. It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan's new movie is about to open in a few weeks."
