Judd sorry for Taylor Swift criticism

Country star Wyonna Judd has apologised for publicly slamming Taylor Swift hours after the teenager's big wins at the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night.

Judd took exception to Swift becoming the youngest person ever to win a coveted Entertainer of the Year prize, suggesting the accolades for the Love Story singer are "too much, too soon".

The outspoken star appeared to sneer at the younger star's success, adding, "I want kids to earn it."

But, 24 hours after Swift's latest big night, Judd offered her apologies, stating, "I understand that my comment... came across as a negative statement.

"My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry... all of which are truly unprecedented for an artist of any age.

"Taylor is a beautiful, hard-working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business."

Swift is beginning to get used to those who can't be happy for her success - in September her Best Female Video award acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards was interrupted by rapper Kanye West, who took the stage to protest her win, insisting the honour should have gone to Beyonce.

West later apologised for his comments.
