CMA nominations announced

Taylor Swift’s week just keeps getting better.

The country-pop superstar — already slated to perform on Thursday’s MTV VMAs and pick up an award at the Canadian Country Music Awards on Sunday — has been nominated for Entertainer of the Year by the U.S. Country Music Association.

Not that anyone should be shocked by that: Swift has won the trophy twice before. But there were a few surprises when this year’s CMA Award nominations were revealed Wednesday morning.

Chief among them: The top nominee this year is rising star Eric Church, up for five awards including Male Vocalist of the Year. His record Chief and single Springsteen also earned nominations in the Album, Single, Song and Video of the year categories.

Married stars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton were behind Church with four nominations each, with Shelton battling for Entertainer of the Year against Swift, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley. Shelton is also up for Male Vocalist of the Year, facing off against Aldean, Church, Keith Urban and newcomer Luke Bryan — another surprise nominee who knocked perennial nominee Paisley out of the category. Bryan’s Tailgates and Tanlines is also up for Album of the Year, along with Church’s Chief, Dierks Bentley’s Home, Lady Antebellum’s Own the Night and Lambert’s Four the Record. Lambert is also vying for Female Vocalist of the Year along with Martina McBride, Swift, Carrie Underwood and former American Idol Kelly Clarkson, while her song Over You is nominated in the Single and Video categories.

Aside from her Entertainer and Female Vocalist nods, Swift is also up for Vocal Event of the Year for the song Safe and Sound, featuring Grammy-winning duo Civil Wars. Also in that category: Dixie Highway by Alan Jackson and Zac Brown; Feel Like a Rockstar by Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney; Stuck on You by Lionel Richie and Darius Rucker, and Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die by Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Kris Kristofferson and Jamey Johnson. That’s right: Hootie, Lionel Richie and Snoop Dogg are all up for CMA Awards. How’s that for a surprise?

The 46th annual CMA Awards will be handed out in Nashville on Nov. 1, with the festivities airing live on ABC. Underwood and Paisley will host.
