HOLLYWOOD -- You gotta give the boy credit. Chris Klein is not shying away from talking about former fiancee Katie Holmes' affair with Tom Cruise.

"I wish them luck. What Katie and I had was something very special. I hope that's what they have," said Klein during his interview for his comedy Just Friends which opens Nov. 23.

Klein, 26, and Holmes, 26, dated for almost five years before getting engaged in 2003.

They ended their relationship in March of this year.

She dated Josh Hartnett briefly before beginning her very public affair with Cruise, 43, in April.

Cruise and Holmes announced their engagement in June and confirmed her pregnancy last month.

Cruise has hinted they plan to be married before the end of the year.

Both Klein and Holmes were raised Catholic.

Holmes has announced she is embracing Scientology, something Cruise's former wife Nicole Kidman refused to do for him.

"I hope that Katie is making all her own decisions in this relationship and I hope she is happy with the decisions she has made," said Klein adding "I hope she is not letting other people make important life decisions for her."

Klein is adamant that Cruise had nothing to do with his split with Holmes.

"There was no third party involved with our breakup. We simply grew up. It was as simple as we were no longer lighting each other's fire."

He says for him relationships are "all about respect for each other. You go into a relationship knowing it's catch as catch can and that it won't necessarily be forever. You run with it as long as you can."

He is proud that "in the eight years I've been an actor in Hollywood, I have never got it on with one of my co-stars.

"My acting coach told me I could fall in love with a co-star, but I should never have sex with them.

"Katie and I didn't meet on a film."

Since his breakup with Holmes, Klein has not been linked with anyone.

He admits he's in a quandry.

"It's difficult to date girls not in the business because they don't understand the pressures and schedules. That's bound to be disastrous to a relationship.

"On the other hand, it's hard to find quality in a woman in this town."

The paper quoted John Travola explaining that according to Scientology principles "there should be absolute quiet in the delivery room so there is nothing recorded in the child's mind that shouldn't be there while there is pain going on."

* Britain's Sunday Mirror reported Cruise had selected the Mexican resort of Maroma for a December Arabian Knights themed wedding.

The Maroma resort was recently ravaged by Hurricane Wilma so Cruise is reportedly looking for another Mexican resort for a wedding that would take place before the end of the year.

* This was in direct contrast to Holmes' wishes as expressed to W magazine in July when she said she wanted "a simple, traditional wedding. I don't want anything glitzy or extravagant."

* One of the big obstacles to a December wedding, according to imdb.com, is a prenuptial agreement being drawn up by her lawyer father Marti Holmes.
