The Notebook stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have sparked reports they are getting engaged, after being spotted shopping for rings.

The two London-born stars were romantically linked in June when they re-enacted their passionate kiss from the romantic film as they picked up the prize for Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards.

A friend of the couple tells the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, "Not only does it look like they're living together, but they've been talking to top private jewellers about engagement rings."

A spokesperson for McAdams said yesterday the rumours were "absolutely inaccurate," but refused to comment further.

The Free Press attempted to contact McAdams and her family members about the engagement rumours, but they were unavailable for comment.

McAdams is one of the stars of the film comedy The Family Stone, which opens in London today.

A romance between her and Gosling reportedly began on the set of The Notebook, the 2004 tearjerker in which they played younger versions of Gena Rowland's and James Garner's characters.

The press has been full of McAdams-Gosling sightings, including such domestic tidbits as the New York Post noting that the duo had been spied grocery shopping and walking a dog in Tinseltown.

More substantive were reports chronicling the couple's multiple trips to the hurricane-stricken Gulf Coast, where the two stars organized a fun-filled Halloween party for storm victim's children.
