 RED-HOT MAMA: Eva Longoria.
|
Hollywood's top designers must have held a seance prior to last night's Golden Globes.
Either that or they spent hours watching every Marilyn Monroe flick imaginable -- since the late sexy starlet's style seemed to be the inspiration behind many red carpet-strutting actresses' fashion choices. From Natalie Portman's lingerie-inspired Chanel gown to Anne Hathaway's red-hot lips, the plush stretch leading to the Beverly Hilton was flooded with vintage couture. The leading men also adopted the retro look, mostly via classic black-and-white tuxedos. Cleavage took a backseat to modest necklines and ultra-low backlines, which in Hilary Swank's case, nearly dipped below sea level.
Forget who won what. Here's a look at who wore what -- and wore it well.
BEST DRESSED WOMAN
Eva Longoria + body-hugging floor-length Bob Mackie gown = one hot chick in a red work of art. The back-baring yet modest dress, complete with her long waves and a $500,000 H. Stern bracelet made the males on the carpet Desperate for a taste. Delish.
RUNNERS-UP: Marcia Cross took two of last year's biggest trends -- Greek-inspired and tangerine -- and made them in again. Charlize Theron's black and nude Dior couture and Sandra Oh's glittery taupe frock also deserve mega fashion props.
BEST DRESSED MAN
Johnny Depp gets the prize for being the hottest of a rare few actors to ditch the penguin look. Usually the outcast of the bunch, Depp stood out in a good way, donning a red shirt under a simple black suit, just-got-out-of-bed hair and a statuesque model wife on his arm. That's haute.
WORST DRESSED WOMAN
Candice Bergen says she likes to be comfy -- but she pushed her luck in a boring black turtleneck and balloon-like skirt. She would have been better off sporting a shoulder-padded blazer from her Murphy Brown days.
WORST DRESSED MAN
Note to Jason Lee: Giggles the Clown called and he wants his bowtie back. The My Name is Earl star could have also used a pre-Globes trip to his barber.
MOST OUTRAGEOUS
Geena Davis overkilled the red trend, covering her body in the bold hue from head to freakin' toe.
MOST RISQUE
This one's a tie. I'm positive Scarlett Johansson's many admirers were placing bets on when her assets would pop out of her scarlet Valentino number. But then again, they might have been too distracted by the dangerously high slit on Renee Zellweger's dress.
BEST BLING
Keira Knightley's vintage Cartier diamond earrings appeared to be giving her a nasty headache, but they looked amazing.
SEXIEST CANUCKS
Alanis Morissette's a blonde now, eh? Although I dug her dark side, the Ottawa-bred nominee for best original song looked surprisingly sultry in a lighter shade. Lost's Evangeline Lilly looked stunning in an emerald green dress.
