Slow down and smell the pavement.
That's just one of the many life lessons hot shot race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) must learn in Cars Pixar's newest animated feature. He must also learn the sterling value of true friendship, the meaning of love, the comforts of life in the slow lane and not ever to judge a car by its chassis.
There are so many life lessons in Cars it's a wonder Lightning ever gets to The Piston Cup finals in California.
Technically, Cars is another eye-popping achievement from Pixar Studios, which gave us Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
Frame-for-frame it's filled with clever touches and mesmerizing detail.
Yet director John Lasseter and his team at Pixar forgot some of the important lessons they learned on previous projects. Cars is the longest of their features which is bound to tax the attention spans of preschoolers.
Finding Nemo and Toy Story in particular found a way to appeal simultaneously to children and adults. The humour and sentiment in Cars is more divided which means adults may be yawning when youngsters are giggling and vice versa. The strong appeal The Incredibles had for teenagers is also missing.
Cars is still a genuine winner.
It just takes longer to cross the finish line than its Pixar predecessors.
