Scarlett Johansson is taking on a royal role in "Mary Queen of Scots," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Johansson will play Queen Mary of Scotland in the film, which centres on the volatile relationship between Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England, who tried to challenge her authority.
Johansson's mother Melanie will produce the film with Alexandra Milchan ("Goodbye Lover") and newcomer Donna Giglioti.
"Mary Queen of Scots" is scheduled to begin shooting by the end of summer 2007.
