10 Sexiest Canadian Men Alive
By -- Calgary Sun

Ryan Reynolds is our pick for Canada's Sexiest Man Alive.

George Clooney is the sexiest man alive -- again.

The 45-year-old single actor, who also earned the title in 1997, was named the hottest male celebrity by People in its annual survey yesterday. Clooney bested Grey's Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey, 40, and Ashton Kutcher, 28.

While Clooney, with his perfect smile, brilliant sense of humour and obvious charisma, is absolutely deserving of the title, the fact he's American probably helped earn him the cover.

Apparently the good folks at People think, when it comes to our men, Canada breeds funny -- not hot.

Since 1989, when the mag started its Sexiest Man Alive search, no Canuck has ever topped the list and there are none in this year's Top 10.

So we've decided to take things into our own hands and do our own Sexiest Canadian Man Alive list.

10. Mike Holmes

A combination of strength, knowledge and masculinity has made Holmes an unlikely sex symbol across the country. The professional contractor, and star of the TV series Holmes on Homes, has won over the hearts of Canadian women with his ability to fix anything while looking smoking in a tank top and overalls.

9. Brendan Fehr

It's not surprising to learn Fehr, the 29-year-old CSI: Miami cast member, started his career as a model. The Winnipeg native, who's best known for his role of Michael Guerin on Roswell, is as good looking as they come and a family man to boot. Fehr, who starred in U2's 2001 video for Stuck in a Moment, now lives in L.A. with his wife Jennifer.

8. Raine Maida

Maida is the definition of sex-on-legs. With his good looks and charisma, the Our Lady Peace frontman easily commands all the attention on stage. But the sexiest part of him is his social conscience. Maida, who's married to Chantal Kreviazuk, works with War Child, even travelling to Iraq to help.

7. Prevail

The rapper from North Vancouver has been turning heads since Swollen Members hit the scene with Balance in 1999. Since then, the 31-year-old hardbody has made the leap to both the big and small screen appearing in Agent Cody Banks, Robson Arms, Cold Squad and Going the Distance. Prevail (Kiley Hendriks) also travelled to Africa in 2002 with MuchMusic to shine a light on the AIDS epidemic.

6. George Canyon

With his rugged good looks, strong jaw and bedroom eyes, Okotoks' Canyon has weakened the knees of many fans. The devoted Christian and father of two reportedly edits his videos so they are not overly sexy. Women love everything about him including his big heart. After becoming the runnerup for Nashville Star 2 in 2004, Canyon went on to win a variety of awards, but more importantly, become a grand philanthropist.

5. Kiefer Sutherland

Sutherland may not be this year's Sexiest Man Alive, but he does have his fair share of female admirers who can't get enough of his rough, rugged features. And, thanks to his hit show 24, he's more famous now than ever. Kiefer has also demonstrated his concern for social issues by speaking against a two-tier health care system in Canada.

4. Gabriel Aubry

As one of the top male models in the business, Montreal-raised Aubry is so much more than Halle Berry's boy-toy. The proud Canadian radiates glamour and elegance, captivating fans and driving designers to repeatedly book him.

3. Adam Beach

With his excellent physique and sexy smile, Beach is easily one of the hottest rising stars in Canada. But the Manitoba-raised father of two is not only easy on the eyes -- he's a pretty darn good actor too. His role in Smoke Signals, which won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Beach's phenomenal performance as Ira Hayes in Clint Eastwood film Flags of Our Fathers is sure to make him a superstar down south.

2. Ryan Gosling

After his breakout role in The Notebook in 2004, Gosling was named one of People's Fifty Hottest Bachelors thanks to his stunning looks, talent and social conscious. Nothing has changed. His performance in Half Nelson is generating Oscar buzz and he continues to work for several charities. We also love that Gosling is still with Notebook co-star and fellow Canadian Rachel McAdams.

1. Ryan Reynolds

There is nothing sexier than a guy with an six-pack who can make you laugh. And the fact the abs-enhanced actor also has a dark side (The Amityville Horror) only helps. Yes, Reynolds appears to be the whole package. He's sexy, successful and giving (he supports charities and has great taste in women.) Despite rumours the two had split, Reynolds and Canada's Alanis Morrisette are still going strong.
