Ready for another dose of Yankee pride?
Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal have been named as the leads for an updated film version of the musical "Damn Yankees," according to Variety. The story follows an everyman (Gyllenhaal) who trades his soul for a spot on New York's loved-or-hated baseball team. The devilish Mr. Applewood (Carrey) and his demonic assistant Lola have other plans: They want Gyllenhaal to default and surrender his soul forever.
No word on how New Line's new version will reconcile the Broadway original's 1950s setting with modern baseball.
Carrey, 47, starred in 2008's "Yes Man." Gyllenhaal, 28, co-starred in 2007's "Zodiac."
