Sam Raimi to direct 'Warcraft' film

Gratz, Sam Raimi.

Raimi, director of the "Spider-Man" and "Evil Dead" movies, has signed on to get behind the camera for "World of Warcraft," according to Variety.

The movie will be based on the uber-popular multiplayer online video game, which pits elves, humans and dwarves against nasties like orcs, trolls and the undead.

There's no word on whether the plot will follow the game's more recent expansions (Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King), or whether they'll use CGI.

Don't expect your Night Elf to be a star just yet: Before he can log in to WoW, Raimi will weave "Spider-Man 4," which begins shooting next year.
