Jude Law is refusing to see his newborn daughter until a DNA test proves he is the father, according to new reports.

Model Samantha Burke gave birth to "beautiful and healthy" baby Sophia on Tuesday after a brief romance with the actor earlier this year while he was filming Sherlock Holmes in New York.

Law had previously vowed to stand by Burke and help to raise the child - but Britain's News of the World newspaper claims the star is not planning to see little Sophia until he has proof he fathered her.

A source tells the publication, "Jude is still very cautious about Sam and Sophia. Until he is 100 per cent certain she is his daughter he is only communicating through lawyers.

"If he is the father he will meet his obligations to the child. He's hoping for an early chance to establish that he is genuinely her dad."
