Weird celebrity baby names

HOLLYWOOD -- Uh oh, here we go again.

After an extended period of unremarkable celebrity baby names -- a "James" here, a "Charlotte" there, the kookiness has again returned.

We could see signs of it coming, what with newborn monikers like Jasper Warren and Harper Willow (more about those in a bit), but then Nicole Richie and her hubby, Joel Madden, had to go and throw down the goofy gauntlet last month with the arrival of Sparrow James Midnight.

All of a sudden big sister Harlow Winter Kate sounds downright pedestrian.

If Nicole and Joel were determined to go the avian route, then there was always Robin or Jay or even the decidedly butch Hawk, but c'mon, Sparrow?

You just know the guy's gonna get his little wings clipped when he starts school.

We not completely surprised considering how Nicole used to be best friends forever with someone called Paris, but, truth be told, her Good Charlotte frontman husband may have been the instigator.

When it comes to the latest batch of crazy baby names, chances are at least one of the parents is in a band.

Like My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, who dubbed his first-born, a daughter, by the way, Bandit Lee.

Or The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, who, over the summer, introduced the world to his second son, Gunnar, explaining at the time that he was looking for a tough name that "combats against the Flowers."

He got it.

Something must have been in the air last spring, when The Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl announced the arrival of Harper Willow, a new little sister for Violet Maye; while country music star Brad Paisley and his actress wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, welcomed Jasper Warren, a little brother for William Huckleberry.

Despite their best efforts, none comes remotely close to Bronx Mowgli, the poor, unsuspecting son of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson, born late last year.

And, as a bonus, he's got BMW for a monogram.

Which is not, for one second, to leave non-musicians off the hook.

In late August, David Boreanaz, currently a regular on Bones, and his actress-model wife, Jaime Bergman, ushered in Bardot Vita, a little sister for brother Jaden Rayne.

Yep, Bardot Vita. Talk about a name drag queens would kill for.

Then last month, Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo and her record producer husband, Chris Ivery, became the first-time parents of a baby girl they named Stella Luna.

Pompeo was no doubt paying tribute to her Italian heritage, but while pretty names when taken on an individual basis, the combination of what translates as Star Moon seems a bit, uh, spacey.

Granted, it's still not as precious as Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, the twin daughters born to Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell last December.

What, Petal Blossom Rainbow was already taken?

Indeed, as a matter of fact, by the third daughter born to British chef Jamie Oliver in April of this year, who should fit right in with Poppy Honey Rosie and Daisy Boo Pamela.

Pamela, you say?

How unusual.
