Brittany Murphy's widower Simon Monjack was stunned to learn the actress died of pneumonia, aided by anaemia and drug intoxication - because he was convinced a heart defect killed his wife.
A coroner's report determined the Clueless star died accidentally on December 20 after contracting pneumonia and suffering iron deficiency condition anaemia.
Officials also ruled "multiple drug intoxication" played a role in her death, but confirmed no illegal drugs were found in her system.
Monjack admits he struggled to accept the pneumonia report - because he believed Murphy's death was due to a congenital heart murmur she was diagnosed with in her teens.
He tells People.com, "Everything (surprised me and Brittany's mom about the report). I expected (the cause of death) to be her heart.
"She wasn't coughing up. I've had pneumonia and coughed up handfuls of spittle. So yeah, everything surprised us, everything."
And Monjack, who married Murphy in 2007, admits he's relieved to have answers following the sudden tragedy, adding, "Case closed. As the coroner said, there's no foul play."
