LOS ANGELES — At least one of Sandra Bullock’s good Canadian pals has been bringing her food and words of comfort as the actress remains in hiding, clearly too devastated to face the world after her husband’s infidelities came to light just a week after she won the Oscar for The Blind Side.
While old boyfriend Ryan Gosling (they did Murder by Numbers together in 2002 and dated for about a year) and Proposal co-star Ryan Reynolds may have sent condolences — it was Keanu Reeves who was seen speeding into action.
Reeves and Bullock, both 45, live about a mile away from one another in the Hollywood Hills and have remained very good friends since their 1994 movie Speed catapulted both of them into stardom. They worked together again in 2006’s The Lake House.
A paparazzo source claims Reeves was seen driving his motorcyle to Bullock’s house while carrying a bag of takeout food around midnight on April 4. But Reeves was too quick and it was too dark to get a shot.
Who knows what comfort food he was bringing, but if history is any indication, it might have been sushi from Nobu, a favourite Japanese restaurant they’ve frequented over the years together.
“Sandra is really holed up in there, she won’t come out, she won’t see anybody except really, really good friends,” another photographer said.
“We were able to get a shot of (comedian and another good friend of the actress) George Lopez coming out of her house during the day and his expression said everything. He looked really depressed and sad for her.”
Bullock has not even spoken to Quinton Aaron, her co-star in The Blind Side. “I only know what I saw on the news,” he told a local photo agency. “(But) my prayers go out to her.”
The Toronto-raised Reeves has made more than a few public appearances the last few weeks in Los Angeles and was peppered with questions about his aggrieved friend. In the best of times, the oft-reclusive Reeves dislikes press interviews. In the worst of times, he’s been known to get physical and very angry with agressive paparazzi.
At a 2010 Toyota Pro/Celebrity race training event two weeks ago in Rosemond, Calif., he was asked by an Us magazine reporter if he was sending “well wishes” to Bullock.
“Yes, of course,” he said. But when asked if he had already reached out to her, the magazine reported, “(he) kept his mouth shut and walked off.”
At press day for the Toyota race on April 7 in Long Beach, Calif., Reeves, knowing the reporters were on the side panting for the opportunity to ask him again about Bullock, refused to do anything but have his photograph taken with fellow racers Patrick Dempsey and Adrien Brody.
Meanwhile, Reeves was scheduled to park his bike and don period costumes with Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor and Julia Roberts for a reading of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at a theatre in Santa Monica April 12.
