Mirren slams original 'Arthur'

The Queen star Helen Mirren was not amused by the original Arthur movie - insisting she didn't find Dudley Moore's legendary role "remotely funny".

The Oscar-winner was the surprise choice to play loyal valet Hobson in the remake of the 1981 comedy classic alongside British funnyman Russell Brand - who will provide his own portrayal of Moore's beloved boozy socialite.

And the actress is adamant the new adaptation will not tarnish the original's popularity - because she found the story of a diminutive alcoholic a bore.

She tells Britain's Daily Express, "I just didn't think a film about a drunken small guy was remotely funny. The reality about alcoholics is that they're boring and tedious."
