BALDWIN

Ultimate Avengers Battle: Final Round
By QMI Agency

After three days of voting, you have chosen Wolverine and Hulk as the final two heroes to battle it out for the crown of Marvel’s toughest Avengers.

If you’re just joining us, Wolverine shredded his way through Iron Man, Black Widow and Captain America before reaching the finals.

In Round One, Wolverine took on Iron Man and won that battle with 66% of the vote. Here’s what you had to say about that fight:

“Iron Man has technology and can fly and all that crazy stuff, but in the end Wolverine would win. He can regenerate and his skeleton is covered with adamantium. You can't beat that.”

“It really should be Iron Man, but Wolverine's healing ability has been amped up so much in recent years that he just can't be killed.”

“Although Iron man is tough, he would lose quickly if he got close enough to Wolverine. His adamantium claws would cut through that iron suit faster than a Ginsu knife. Not to mention the enhanced super human strength and agility that Wolverine possesses, he would be able to evade. If by chance he was hit, well, has does have the healing ability to top it all off!”

After Logan dispatched Tony Stark, he went on to fight Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow). That was a decidedly more lopsided affair with Wolverine taking 98% of the vote.

“Both know martial arts, but that's it for Black Widow. Wolverine has claws, healing, and is faster. That's all she wrote.”

“Wolverine knew Black Widow when she was a little girl and probably had a hand in her training, either directly or he trained the ones who trained her. A favourite X-Men saying is ‘I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know.’”

“Wolverine has decades of training in fighting and war fare. Even with the Black Widow's agility, Wolverine would win because he would be able to last a lot longer.”

In the semi-finals, Wolverine squared off against the First Avenger and throttled the patriotic Steve Rogers. Even though Captain America is one of Marvel’s oldest heroes, 87% of you said he had no chance against the X-Man.

It wasn’t even close. Here’s what you had to say:

“Wolverine can take a much bigger hit, and his pure rage puts him over the top. Not to mention he's Canadian...the best Canadian superhero vs. the ultimate American. Just like 1812, Canadians kick butt.”

“Both are Military trained and both served in WW2 together. The problem is you can't put Wolverine down, he will always get back and Cap just can't dish out enough punishment to really really slow down Wolvie... So in the end Adamantium Skeleton and claws with healing factor take Super Soldier. Saying all that it would be one heck of a fight!”

“Wolverine can easily deflect Cap's shield due to his adamantium skeleton. Cap can get a few cheap shots in, but Wolverine is able to smell the scent of Cap on his shield and easily able to dodge it. Because of his quick reflexes, Wolverine can attack Cap when he is unarmed.”

“Cap maybe a successful scientific experiment but so was melding adamantium to Wolverine's skeleton. Adding that to his recuperative powers plus his claws and Cap doesn't have a chance. Wolverine's claws will cut through Caps shield as if it were paper.”

“Both have super human strength, speed, agility. One has a indestructible shield, the other is just plain indestructible from his claws to his skeleton to his ability to regenerate. Captain America can't do that.”

“No contest. Claws shred the shield and endless healing defeat boy-scout demeanor and enhanced abilities.”

Results for the Hulk versus the Thing were even more lopsided. After a surprising victory over War Machine, Thing thumped Luke Cage. But he was overmatched against the raging monster. Following wins over Thor and She-Hulk, Dr. Bruce Banner pummelled Ben Grimm, taking 94% of your votes.

Here is what you said about that mismatch:

“This has been done more than once in the comics and Hulk wins every time. He just gets stronger and stronger whereas Thing stays the same. To start it's an even battle then Hulk gets madder and madder and then Thing goes down for the count.”

“The Hulk has kicked the Thing's rocky behind every time.”

“A long debated question since the characters were introduced. The two are almost equal in strength, however, Hulk would have the advantage. Thing may have rock-hard skin which makes him durable and able to fight longer, however, Hulk has a healing factor, almost like Wolverine's, and the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. In the animated film, Ultimate Avengers, Hulk was able to overpower the entire Avengers team (comprised of Iron Man, Giant Man, Wasp, Black Widow, Thor, and Captain America). This is something I believe The Thing cannot do.”

“Classic, classic matchup, but one that has been done before. They rank 1-2 in the Marvel Universe when it comes to strength, but Hulk is stronger. Add in the size difference and the rage, and it's a clear Hulk victory. The Thing gets CLOBBERED.”

“Tough fight. Both super strong and well nigh indestructible, but in the end Hulk wins because his power grows with his rage/frustration. Ben is powerful but doesn't have the same healing that Hulk has nor does he have the other enhanced abilities like super-jumps. In the end Ben's stamina would run out.”

Which brings us to our final: A fight comic book fans have pondered for years – Wolverine versus Hulk. There can only be one winner. So, show your allegiance and help us crown Marvel’s Ultimate Avenger.

The winner will be announced at 7 p.m. tonight.
