'Star Wars' vs. 'James Bond'
Jedi Knights and 007 fanatics square off in our 'Greatest Movie Franchise' finale
By Mark Daniell, QMI Agency

So after a month of voting in which we asked Sun readers to choose their all time favourite movie franchise, we’re down to our final two. Batfans, Potter geeks, Hobbit experts and Trekkies will have to choose between Star Wars and Bond, James Bond.

We started with 32 – feel free to go back and look through some of our earlier matchups – and now you’ve whittled them down to the final two.

Many of you predicted a Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings finale. But Hobbits were no match for 007. Film fans may like Twilight, but Bella and Edward were bounced in the first round, as was Depp’s Captain Sparrow, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and many more.

But now, this is it. Six Star Wars films will square off against the decades-old Bond franchise.

A lot of you found the first three episodes in Lucas’ space opera hard to stomach, but the grand scope of the final three continues to resonate. Likewise, Bond, sullied by the Timothy Dalton era and one or two of the Pierce Brosnan editions, has an equally enduring legacy.

Only one can win, though. And this is your chance to decide. Voting starts today and will continue until Wednesday when we’ll crown the winner. Scroll below to read your comments from last week.

Ding, ding.

Round 4: ‘Star Wars’ vs. ‘Star Trek’

The Force wasn’t with Kirk and the gang as Star Wars took 63% of the vote. Here are some of your comments.

“Star Wars is a game changer and all the movies were incredible...definitely the best MOVIE franchise of the two.”

“A tough one, but Star Wars was groundbreaking when it came out, and even watching the original now, you can't help but be impressed by not only the effects but the storyline and the way that the storyline evolved from one episode to the next.”

“Ah, the classic geek debate. One of the oldest on record and the cause of much nerd rage . While I consider myself a fan of both, I'm far more excited by the prospect of a new Star Wars movie than I am a new Star Trek movie. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Star Trek has had far too many TV series' and movies over the years, whereas with Star Wars you get a new trilogy every 20 years. Or maybe it's the fact that there is something more inherently nerdy about Trekkies than Star Wars fans. Star Wars all the way.”

Round 4: ‘James Bond’ vs. ‘Batman’

Bats may be the box office winner, but suave Bond shook and then stirred the comic book detective with 63% of the vote. Here are some of your comments.

“I just love the entertainment value Bond movies give without getting dark and broody. Good wins out over evil and does it in the most scenic places on earth.”

“I'm a huge Batman fan... but one can't argue with 23 straight movies with no "reboot" of the franchise.”

“Even the cheesiest Bond movies (I'm looking at you Moonraker) are re-watchable. Other then The Dark Knight, Batman movies just aren't that re-watchable. Sorry Batman.”

“I love the new Batman series but I have to vote James Bond as the better "Movie Franchise" in this case. Batman keeps getting a few movies then a new director puts their spin on the series but no matter who directs/plays BOND, the premise is still the same.”

“While the Timothy Dalton era was largely forgettable, Bond's staying power over the decades makes this an easy win.”
