Action-hero showdown: Round 2
By Mark Daniell, QMI Agency

Last week, we here at Canoe kicked off our ultimate action-hero showdown poll, a 16-way battle to determine which action hero from the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s is the biggest and baddest of them all.

And with apologies to Charlie Bronson aficionados, the opening round was a virtual bloodbath.

Here’s a breakdown of the matches:

Who’d a thunk that Dolph Lundgren and Vin Diesel would have been the closest matchup in round one? It was a seesaw battle between Drago and Dom, with Diesel barely squeezing out the last-minute win with 51% of the vote (thank Twitter for that one Vin).

We all know Mad Mel has a big mouth and Harrison Ford had no trouble shutting it for him taking their slugfest with 65% of the vote.

Nic Cage has tax problems (how else do you explain “Season of the Witch”?) and when it comes to his action movie cred, he’s got nothing on Kate Beckinsale. The “Underworld” star thumped Cage with 69% of the vote.

Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes battled in 1993’s “Demolition Man” and, well, we all know how that turned out. This time was no different, with Sly pummelling the tax cheat with 86% of your votes. Sorry Wes, maybe you can beg for a role in “Expendables 3”?

Chuck Norris is old enough to be your granddaddy. But that didn’t stop him from submitting Steve Seagal with 73% of the vote.

The biggest upset honour went to Jason Statham, who sent straight-to-DVD champ JCVD packing with 67% of the vote.

The final two battles – Bruce vs. Milla and Arnie vs. The Rock – were also lopsided, with McClane and the Terminator moving on to the next round with over 80% of your votes.

Today, we have four face-offs that pit some of today’s action heroes against stars from the ‘80s: Vin Diesel vs. Harrison Ford; Kate Beckinsale vs. Sylvester Stallone; Chuck Norris vs. Jason Statham and Bruce Willis vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Scroll down to vote in today’s polls and let us know your thoughts on the face-offs in the comments. Voting for the second round ends Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
