Is Amanda Bynes the next Lindsay Lohan?

Or is Lindsay Lohan the next Lindsay Lohan? Or is it both?

Those burning questions surfaced this week in light of a familiar pattern of oddball, LiLo-like behavior that came to a head with Bynes' being cited Sunday for driving with a suspended license after a series of auto accidents.

But those assorted traffic, uh, mishaps, which, over the past five months have included goosing the back of a sheriff's vehicle with Bynes' black BMW (Apr. 6), a hit-and-run (Apr. 10) and rear-ending a Toyota (Aug. 4), seem to be just the tip of the iceberg where the actress is concerned.

Her overall mental state has been called into question in light of recent displays of disturbing public conduct, culminating in her locking herself in a boutique dressing room on Monday for almost two hours.

There have also been reports of Bynes talking to herself and acting confused on numerous occasions, prompting speculation about drug and alcohol issues or even mental illness.

At present, Bynes hasn't made known plans to enter any sort of rehab facility -- she's due in court for arraignment on those hit-and-run charges which carry a maximum sentence of six months in jail -- but comparisons to LiLo are inevitable.

They're both 26-year-old former child stars, with Bynes starring in several hit Nickelodeon shows while still in her teens.

Also like Lindsay, Amanda has struggled over the past few years to successfully transition into adult roles.

Her most recent notable screen appearance was in 2010's Easy A.

On the subject of Lohan, if you think that someone with her record might be the perfect person to extend a charitable offer of assistance in helping get Bynes back on track, think again.

Instead, on Monday she issued the whiny tweet, "Why did I get put in jail and a Nickelodeon star has had NO punishment(s) so far?"

So much for rehabilitation and learning to finally take responsibility for your actions instead of finger-pointing and playing the blame game.

Sadly, judging from a fresh wave of LiLo-related drama, we suspect we haven't heard the last from either of these two Hollywood casualties.
