Black cast in 'Last Night' remake
By MICHAEL RECHTSHAFFEN, Special to QMI Agency

Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, and Kevin Hart.

Remember About Last Night ... that totally '80s relationship comedy starring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, James Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins?

Well, it's gone the remake route, but with a bit of a twist.

Shooting has begun here in town on a spanking new About Last Night (minus the dots), but, taking a cue from recent screen retakes on Steel Magnolias and Death at a Funeral, it features a predominantly black cast.

That would include Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, all of whom also were part of the winning ensemble of the hit rom-com, Think Like a Man.

That movie, based on Steve Harvey's bestselling relationship advice book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, has been given the green light for a sequel after charming an impressive $91.5 million out of moviegoers earlier this year.

There's no word yet on who'll be returning for No. 2.

As for the reworked About Last Night, written by Bachelorette scribe Leslye Headland and directed by Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine), it's said to come closer in tone to the 1986 movie's original source material, which was the David Mamet play, Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

The Lowe edition was at one point considered as a starring vehicle for pals Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi (John's brother James had received his big break in the stage version) but it wasn't meant to be.

As for Moore, she won the role of Debbie after Lowe had screen-tested with several serious contenders, including Mariel Hemingway and Melissa Leo.

Also joining the cast of the revamped version are Parenthood's Joy Bryant and Adam Rodriguez, who was last seen wearing a thong in the role of Tito in Magic Mike.

You can expect additional, hipper changes to be made where the original soundtrack was concerned, given that it featured synth-heavy tracks by the likes of Sheena Easton, Jermaine Jackson and John Oates, taking a break from Darryl Hall to croon a little ditty called (She's the) Shape of Things to Come.

Ahhh, the '80s ...
