Horror villain scrapfest: Round 3
By BRIAN BAKER, QMI Agency

Round 2 is over, and now only an evil eight remain.

As Halloween inches closer, so does the victor of the ultimate horror villain scrapfest.

After round 2 there are no slow walkers left. And there are no one-trick ponies left either. Our evil eight can come out of nowhere, whether it’s in your dreams, out of your chest or at your front door when you least expect them.

Scroll down to vote in round 3, just below our review of round two.

Michael Myers vs. The Firefly Family

Myers has a penchant for killing family members. In fact it’s his only motivation, just ask Jamie Lee Curtis. Regardless, Mikey quite handily beat Otis, Baby and Captain Spaulding of the Firefly clan.

Comments:

“No one knows what is going on inside Michael's head. The Fireflys are just psychotic, but Michael Myers is a legend.”

“Myers would take down the firefly family before they knew what hit them.”

“Every time I drive past a dilapidated farmhouse, I shiver at the thought of a real Firefly Family living there.”

Jason Voorhees vs. Kayako

Kayako, who provided the biggest upset in the first round with her marginal win over The Mummy, did not have staying power against the beastly Voorhees.

Comments:

“Jason is the best! Higher body count wins. Kayako is creepy, sure, but Jason will keep coming at you.”

“Kayako would come down the stair croaking at Jason, he'd take one look at her and chop her head off with a machete. You can't scare someone who can't die.”

“What can I say, the mask is everything and he's even scared the heck out of people in space.”

Count Dracula vs. Chucky

A possessed doll doesn’t exact offer up blood to sate the Count’s yens, but Chucky didn’t exactly put up as much of a fight as Paranormal Activity’s unnamed demon. Dracula advances to the evil eight with two-thirds of the popular vote.

Comments:

“Chucky's cool but no match for Dracula.”

“This is not even a question: One of the all-time most-notorious villains in literature vs. a doll?”

“Tried, tested and true, Dracula has more meaning, ferocity and potential for terror than a cheesy doll.”

Freddy Krueger vs. Pinhead

The intellectual and articulate Pinhead could not outwit the wise-cracking nightmare known as Freddy. Voters uttered their own Lament Configuration, and banished Pinhead from the ultimate horror villain scrapfest.

Comments:

“I know I can’t go without sleep and I know I would never open the box. Freddy Krueger, knives down!”

“This was extremely close but I will have to give the nod to Freddy. As much as Pinhead is terrifying, not much can compete with the terror of a nightmare that can actually kill you.”

“Imagination was put into Pinhead and once released has more terror potential than just a dream monster.”

The Werewolf vs. Norman Bates

Lon Chaney, Jr., David Naughton, Benicio Del Toro and Dee Wallace are just a small cross section of people who’ve played the famous lycanthrope that predates Dracula in the mythology annals. Norman Bates, portrayed more notably by Anthony Perkins and Vince Vaughn, provided a tough challenge but the shapeshifters won by the hairs on their chinny, chin-chins.

Comments:

“Mother would not approve if I didn't vote for Norman here. I've been in hotels that I've wondered if the guy at the desk is watching me ... all because of this movie, and what a better way to scare the wife but opening the shower curtain.”

“Norman Bates is a true horror movie villain. The Werewolf has been shown as a partial good guy in the past. Norman Bates has always been a psycho.”

“Werewolf. The technology for the werewolf is getting to be almost realistic.”

Hannibal Lecter vs. Jaws

The land-lubber and penitentiary tenant, Hannibal Lecter, feasted upon the bones of Jaws in round 2. The only SOB smiling now is a sated cannibal, after taking two-thirds of the popular vote.

Comments:

“You can't put a muzzle on Jaws.”

“Jaws could only get me if I go near the water, Lecter could try to eat me anywhere!”

“It's a close call between the greatest evil mind of all-time and the menace of the deep. But you can't see a shark coming and its realm is so much larger. Jaws made the ocean a terrifying place for a lot of people.”

Leatherface vs. Pazuzu

When it comes to the freak-out level of a big galoot with a chainsaw or an eons-old demon, horror fans pick the galoot.

Comments:

“My skin still crawls when I see that face flash across the screen. Pazuzu is part of an iconic horror film that, in my opinion, still has not been topped for terror.”

“If something like this Pazuzu appeared to me in the dark I think I'd need a change of pants.”

“To this day, the sound of a chainsaw still puts me on the alert, and I start taking stock of my surroundings.”

Xenomorphs vs. Predator

What happens when the two biggest monstrosities of the sci-fi horror genre face off? Humans become collateral damage as was evident when these two actually did duke it out in Antarctica in 2004. QMI’s poll shows that the fans side with the Xenomorphs or are at least more frightened by them than Predator.

Comments:

“Aliens! Predator has a code that makes him less of an all-around killer”

“Predators are trophy hunters that don't harm unarmed people. Xenomorphs hunt you down (men, woman, or children), glue you to a wall, and let their little siblings implant a parasite inside of you ... and then they explode out of your stomach and the cycle is repeated.”

“Alien, because they are the chest bursters!”
