Actress Virginia Madsen and True Blood star Kristen Bauer van Straten are among the celebrities taking aim at fashion house Barneys for featuring a skinny version of Disney character Minnie Mouse in their holiday ad campaign.
Bosses at Barneys have released a mock-up of their proposed Christmas window display to be erected at their flagship store in New York, and the collection contains Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Daisy Duck re-imagined as tall, thin models
The idea has infuriated Sideways star Madsen, actress Bauer van Straten, and family heiress Abigail Disney and the trio has added its names to a petition to scrap the project - because of the message it sends to young girls.
An excerpt of the signed document reads, "There is nothing wrong with tall thin women. There is something wrong with changing a beloved children's character's body so that it looks good in a dress that almost nobody looks good in.
"Girls have enough pressure to be thin, now the beloved Disney mouse of their childhood has to add to the message that the only good body is a tall, size 0 body?
"Enough already. Let's give girls a chance to celebrate the actual bodies they have instead (of) hating them for not fitting into a (designer) Lanvin dress."
