Cult TV series from the 1980s MacGyver could finally get its big-screen adaptation, reveals Variety. New Line studios are reportedly courting James Wan, the director of the Saw saga, ten years after acquiring the rights for MacGyver.
The project has been talked about since 2002, and the production company is currently eyeing James Wan as its director. The 35-year old director is better known for his horror flicks, such as Insidious (2011) and the Saw saga (2004).
Launched in 1985, MacGyver saw its final season wrap up two decades ago. Richard Dean Anderson portrayed the hero McGyver, a resourceful agent with a scientific background who prefers tinkering with objects in his environment to using a gun when his missions land him in trouble.
A film parody of the cult series titled MacGruber, starring Will Forte, was released in 2010.
