'Les Miz' an Oscar frontrunner

Hugh Jackman in "Les Miserables."

HOLLYWOOD -- If you had asked a week or so ago, we would have told you that the Oscar race was going to be dominated by four films in particular, namely Lincoln, Argo, Life of Pi and The Silver Linings Playbook.

Well, there's a new frontrunner on the block.

Last Thanksgiving weekend we caught a sneak peek at Les Miserables, and having heard the people sing, we're here to tell you that it's going to be a serious awards force to be reckoned with--Oscars, Golden Globes, you name it.

The long-awaited screen adaptation of the hit musical isn't scheduled to arrive until Christmas Day, but members of the Motion Picture Academy as well as those of the various craft guilds were treated to an early presentation hosted by the movie's director, Tom Hooper.
