Our film flop remake wishlist
By Jim Slotek, QMI Agency
Okay, here's my theory. If a "flop" hangs around long enough, more recent movies will get so bad, it will end up looking good.
How else to explain the resurfacing of Kevin Costner's Waterworld on the U.S. SyFy channel? The 1995 movie, set in a water-covered Earth even Al Gore couldn't foresee, with Kevin Costner on a raft, breathing through gills and drinking his own filtered urine.
Once the template for a movie bomb (though it apparently broke even on video), it's become a cable hit of late, racking up 400,000 viewers per screening, according to Forbes.
The uptick has the network talking series, and maybe even a movie "reboot."
