Movies to get you in Xmas spirit
By Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency

It's NOT beginning to look a bit like Christmas. Not yet. We need a little stimulation to get in the gifting spirit of the holidays.

For me, that invariably comes from music and movies. The music is retro, especially from Bing Crosby. Crosby's daughter, Mary Crosby, once confided that even Crosby Clan members get warm-and-fuzzy hearing Bing's tender tenor voice warbling out Christmas songs in public places.

As for movies, I start with a wild card. It's a U.S. Thanksgiving Day movie. Weird? Not really: The timing is about right, leaving enough shopping days left to Christmas. And, while the American holiday is meaningless to me as a Canadian, it conjures memories of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Funnily enough, it is a Canadian icon, the late John Candy, who co-stars with American comic Steve Martin in this 1987 John Hughes movie.
