Russell Crowe defends singing in Les Miserables after Adm Lambert’s Twitter rant Russell Crowe has defended his new movie Les Miserables after Adam Lambert slammed the film’s all-star cast for “pretending to be singers,” insisting director Tom Hooper wanted the musical scenes to be “raw and real”. The former American Idol star, who began his career in musical theatre, shared his disappointment with the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway production with his Twitter.com followers over the festive season. In a series of posts, he wrote, “Les Mis: Visually impressive w (with) great emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers... it’s an opera. Hollywood’s movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority.” Crowe, who stars as a police inspector in the movie, was told of the rant by one of his own Twitter followers, and wrote a post in response. He stated, “I don’t disagree with Adam, sure it could have been sweetened, Hooper wanted it raw and real, that’s how it is.”
