What do you get when you gene-splice the Geminis (the awards for Canadian TV) and the Canadian movie awards The Genies?
Imaginative minds might have come up with names like the Jiminies or Jumanjis.
Instead, this movie-TV award hybrid has been dubbed The Canadian Screen Awards - the first edition of which will air March 3 with host Martin Short.
The combined awards are produced and voted on by members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
Taking a cue from the movie/TV mashup the Golden Globes (with a nod to "digital content"), the CSAs announced their full lineup of nominees yesterday.
The Oscar-nominated Rebelle/War Witch -- about a child soldier, 14 and pregnant in sub-Saharan Africa -- led the film pack with 12 nominations, including for best picture, lead actress (Rachel Mwanza), supporting actor (Serge Kanyinda) and director.
