NEW YORK - As they say, don't try this at home. But, according to Jason Statham, here's what you need to know about jumping out of a car at 90 kph.
"The idea is to land with your hands first, and assume a roll, pretty much what you see in the movie," says Statham, who appears to do as much while escaping from double-crossing robbery partners in mid-getaway in the action flick Parker, opening Friday.
Not that he actually did that. The prosaic (but still hazardous) reality is that Statham jumped from the car at that speed onto a parallel moving platform, and filmed the ground contact later.
"The real possibility was he'd fall off the platform at 55 miles per hour," says director Taylor Hackford, who admits it was worrisome to work with someone who insists on doing even the most challenging stunts himself.
