Hollywood is still abuzz about Ben Affleck being denied a best director Oscar nomination for Argo, even though the film -- set during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis in Iran -- won Affleck both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for directing. And he's among the five filmmakers nominated for top prize at next weekend's Director's Guild of America awards.
Was Affleck snubbed by the Academy because he also cast himself in the film as CIA operative Tony Mendez, instead of looking for an actor who was a better physical match for the part? Was it because he's too young and only has a couple of other solid movies under his directorial belt?
