Back in 1938, Jackie Coogan had to sue his parents for squandering the fortune he earned as a child actor. There's nothing new about the moms and dads of child celebrities eating their young. So to speak.
'Blame' might be too strong a word, but these days, when younger Hollywood celebs crash and burn, it's tough not to question their parents' contribution to that fall.
In any family where a child has become the main breadwinner, you've almost always got a problem. A child who knows his parents are afraid of upsetting him for financial reasons is a child who will run riot over his caretakers. It gets worse if the parents try to 'friend' the child instead of parenting him or her; Drew Barrymore can tell you all about that.
These days, the most obvious celeb case of apparent parental bungling involves Lindsay Lohan, who became her parents' ticket out of palookaville when she was still an adolescent.
