If it hadn't been for that fateful encounter with a photographer while walking along a beach in her native Colombia, today, Modern Family's Sofia Vergara might have found herself in a decidedly different field of work: Modern dentistry.

"I always wanted to be a doctor," confesses Vergara, flashing an impeccable set of pearly whites. "But 20-something years ago in Colombia that wasn't really a good option for a woman -- you were supposed to get married and have kids. So the next best thing for me was dentistry because you do go through three years of medical school."

Although she didn't end up completing the course once those modeling offers started coming in, the South American bombshell was there long enough to become well-versed in human anatomy.

"Four times a week we were in the amphitheatre with the cadavers," shares Vergara. "You learned how to dissect them and you had to name every vein in the body and hole in the skull. That was the part I really loved."
