Who better to usher in the rebooted Genies/Geminis than Martin Short?
After all the 62-year-old Canadian comic has made a career out of reinventing himself since the 1970s.
Most recently, he's hosted Saturday Night Live, turned up for an Emmy-nominated role on Damages, enjoyed triple-billing in Frankenweenie, presented Steven Spielberg with an award at this month's Directors Guild Of America Awards and acted as a pitchman for Lay's potato chips.
But in the wake of Seth MacFarlane's polarizing appearance on the Academy Awards, audiences shouldn't expect Short as host to overshadow the nominees at Sunday's newly-christened Canadian Screen Awards.
"I think the secret of these shows is combining two ideas," says Short animatedly. "When you think of the Academy Awards, or the Golden Globes, the host comes out, kills for 12 minutes and then says, 'Now the show.' It can't always be, 'Back to me again'... because it's really honouring the film and television industry. It's not about me."
