It's a Hollywood mystery deeper than the death of Marilyn Monroe, the mental state of Lindsay Lohan or the exact composition of John Travolta's toupee: how the heck do we keep getting two freakishly identical movies coming out within a few months of each other?

The most recent head-scratcher is the duo of director Antoine Fuqua's Olympus Has Fallen, opening this week, and director Roland Emmerich's White House Down, which comes out in June.

Both movies are about a secret service agent (Gerard Butler in Olympus Has Fallen/Channing Tatum in White House Down) swept up in a takeover of the White House by a heavily armed enemy force (North Korean terrorists/a paramilitary group) with casts that include Oscar-winning black actors in authoritative roles (Morgan Freeman as the Speaker of the House of Representatives/Jamie Foxx as the U.S. president.)
