Like the giant chicken in Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane could be coming back for another beating.

MacFarlane, one of the most divisive Academy Awards hosts in recent memory, has been asked if he'd be up for repeating his hosting gig at next year's Oscars, according to Deadline.com.

MacFarlane hasn't commented yet - the Family Guy creator's busy movie schedule over the next year might nix his involvement, given the long and intensive lead-up process to the Oscars - but it's already got fans, foes and Tinseltown buzzing.

As we see it, here are the pros and cons to having MacFarlane back to take another swing at Hollywood.

PROS

He doesn't give a damn:

There were more "oh no he didn't!" moments at this year's Oscars than any we can remember. MacFarlane drew fire for his political incorrectness - sexist jokes, slavery jokes, domestic abuse jokes - but y'know what? It was a breath of fresh air after the feel-good predictability of so many past hosts.

He's talented:

MacFarlane's not just the funny voice behind Peter Griffin and the talking bear in Ted - he's a gifted comedic writer and director, a decent actor and shockingly great singer. He seems completely comfortable in the spotlight for a guy who rarely shows his face in his own work.

He got good ratings:

Despite (or maybe because of) all the fuss over MacFarlane's choice as host, the ratings for this year's telecast were up 3% overall, but spiked 20% in the 18-34 demographic coveted by advertisers, notching the best Nielsen numbers in that age group since Ellen DeGeneres hosted six years ago.

He'd get even better ratings next time:

This year, MacFarlane was a complete wild card. If he were to return, it stands to reason that even more people would tune in to see how he'd try to top stuff like that ridiculous We Saw Your Boobs musical number.
