HOLLYWOOD -- Mark Addy promises there will be no stripping in Bedrock when he takes over the role of Fred Flintstone next March.
Addy who played the chubby stripper in The Full Monty has been cast as a young Fred Flintstone in the prequel to the hit live action movie, which starred John Goodman.
Addy admits he originally turned down the role.
"I got the offer shortly after The Full Monty opened in America. I was worried about having to do an American accent and doing a role someone else had originated," explains Addy.
"The second offer came with a cover letter. It explained that Steven Spielberg was the executive producer of the film and he insisted I was the person he wanted for Fred.
"Having Spielberg personally ask for you puts the offer in a whole different ball park."
Addy says he's been "watching a lot of the Flintstone cartoons and dozens of episodes of The Honeymooners on which the Flintstones was based.
"I won't watch the first movie because I don't want to steal anything from John Goodman's performance."
