It appears the Tom Cruise-Paula Wagner produced remake of "The Eye" is going to see the light of day after all.

Variety reports actress Jessica Alba ("Into the Blue") is in talks to star in the thriller, which was recently picked up by movie studio Lionsgate.

The story centres on a cornea transplant recipient who sees disturbing images in the mirror, which lead her on a quest to find out what happened to the eye's previous owner.

The long-gestating remake (originally filmed in Hong Kong) previously had Renee Zellweger attached, but she dropped out for unknown reasons back in 2002, after the redo rights were bought by Paramount.

French filmmakers David Moreau and Xavier Palud are also in negotiations to direct.

Production is scheduled to begin this winter.
