Altman's Gere flick coming to Fest
By BRUCE KIRKLAND

TORONTO -- Legendary Hollywood maverick Robert Altman is planning to unveil his latest film, the Richard Gere romantic comedy Dr. T And The Women, at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The filmfest has not yet announced the film, but Altman told The Toronto Sun that the deal is cinched. Dr. T will show up either as a gala or as a special presentation, the 'shadow' gala series.

"See you in September," Altman said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. "The film is in the Toronto festival."

Gere stars as Dr. Sully Travis, a slickly-dressed, philandering gynecologist who gets his retribution at the hands of his patients. The female co-stars include Claire Danes and Liv Tyler, who flew to Texas to do her Dr. T sessions in between months of shooting her role as the Queen of the Fairies in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy in New Zealand.

Dr. T was written by Anne Rapp, who also penned the screenplay for Altman's most recent film, Cookie's Fortune.
