HOLLYWOOD -- Paul W.S. Anderson, who wrote and directed Resident Evil, is working on an update of the 1975 futuristic racing flick Death Race 2000.
"Ours will be called Death Race 3000. Right now Tom Cruise is attached as a producer, but we're hoping he'll play Frankenstein, the best death car racer in the world," says Anderson. "The character gets the nickname Frankenstein because he's had so much reconstructive surgery from accidents, he's practically a machine."
Anderson says it is his dream to have Sylvester Stallone "come back as Machine Gun Joe, the character he played in the original. If anyone has the pull to get Sly in the movie, it's Tom Cruise."
Anderson says Death Race 3000 will feature "a race around the world instead of just across America, so we'll have cars that break the sound barrier, become invisible and break apart.
"There will be no limits to what these cars and racers can do."
