Quirky filmmaker Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums" is going to get the royal treatment from high-end DVD makers The Criterion Collection.
The company's website (www.criterionco.com) has announced that a special double-disc DVD is already in production.
The disc of the 2001 Oscar-nominated release -- which starred Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow -- is due in July. It will include special slipcase packaging, with a cast portrait by celebrity photographer Richard Avedon, as well as artwork by Eric Anderson.
In addition, the disc features commentary by Wes Anderson, exclusive interviews with the cast (including Luke and Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, and Danny Glover), outtakes, and an "Art Of The Movie" documentary on the drawings and artwork featured in the film and theatrical trailers.
Documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles ("Gimme Shelter") also prepared a "With The Filmmaker" feature on Wes Anderson, which is included in the DVD.
Criterion previously prepared an expanded DVD edition of Anderson's earlier film "Rushmore."
Other upcoming titles from Criterion include the June release of director Anthony Asquith's 1952 version of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance Of Being Earnest."
In July, Criterion plans to release Rene Clair's silent comedy send-up of the industrial revolution, "A Nous La Liberte," and Clair's 1930 romantic comedy "Under The Roofs Of Paris."
