The Man Of Steel has a new Man Of Letters.
Paul Attanasio, the screenwriter behind "The Sum Of All Fears" and "Quiz Show," is the latest in a parade of screenwriting talent to have a go at reviving Warner Bros.' "Superman" franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In recent years, director Tim Burton ("Sleepy Hollow") and actor Nicolas Cage ("Gone In 60 Seconds") have tried to reinvigorate the DC Comics hero, but their efforts failed to advance to the movie-making stage.
Among the screenplays worked up during that period were takes by Bill Wisher ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day"), Dan Gilroy ("Chasers"), and Kevin Smith ("Dogma," "Chasing Amy," "Clerks").
Attanasio will draw from those earlier attempts at a new "Superman" movie but will focus on his own take on the caped crime-fighter.
Among the directors being considered for the project are Burton, Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids", "El Mariachi"), and Oliver Stone ("Wall Street," "Nixon"), The Hollywood Reporter said.
